Medical technologies in EU become one new single entity

EDMA and Eucomed members have voted to dissolve their respective European associations. A new MedTech Europe single entity has been created, representing the European medical technology sector, from diagnosis to cure. The new MedTech Europe is operating immediately.

After four years of successful alliance between EDMA (the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association) and Eucomed (the European Medical Device Manufacturers Association), the two European associations’ collaboration have concluded their final step, as they unify and become one new single entity. This new entity carries through the name of MedTech Europe. As a consequence, EDMA and Eucomed no longer exist. “The new MedTech Europe truly crystallises what the medical technology industry stands for: bringing life-changing technologies to patients. MedTech Europe is the only European trade association representing the medical technology industry from diagnosis to cure. We are now in a stronger and unique position to contribute to EU debates on solutions for patients and health systems across the whole continuum of care. That is what patients, policy makers and healthcare providers expect from us and what we will deliver on”, said Rob ten Hoedt, the new Chairman of MedTech Europe.

MedTech Europe aims to be a key thought leader in Brussels when it comes to addressing today’s and future healthcare challenges in Europe. “MedTech Europe will provide constructive and essential input to any European debate around healthcare, given that our industry looks at the entire healthcare ecosystem and the full patient pathway. MedTech Europe will continue to provide its diagnostic and device domains with core specific services and expertise. At the same time, we now have even more reasons and resources to become further engaged in forward-thinking healthcare themes, including digitalisation and disruptive technologies such as 3D printing and integrated healthcare,” said Serge Bernasconi, CEO of MedTech Europe.

“I’m really excited that EDMA and Eucomed have decided to take this step forward. I am confident that being fully integrated, we have the width needed to be a major contributor to address current and future challenges in European healthcare.  At the same time we will be able to keep our focus on the specificities of each of the industry segments we represent, when needed. We are now uniquely equipped for the future,” said Jürgen Schulze, the new Vice Chair of MedTech Europe.
